To become a Perfumotherapist, you need to enrol for 3 courses and amongst them: Natural Aromatherapy, Olfaction Training and Natural Perfumery. After receiving the Certification for these 3 sectors of activity, you can apply to become a Certified Perfumotherapist.

COURSE 1
OLFACTION TRAINING
The following is an intensive online Olfaction Training course, created and given by Creezy Courtoy,  in which you will learn:

​Module 1- Introduction to Olfaction:

• History of olfaction
• Decline of the use of the olfactory sense in our society
• Primary use of the olfactory sense.
• Animal examples
• Importance of olfaction

Module 2 - Introduction to Odors:

• The nature of odor and the olfactory system 
• Definition of odors
• Odor functions and power
• Human odor  

Module 3 - The Psychology of Olfaction:

• How scents, fragrances and perfumes impact our mind
• Olfactory messages to the brain 
• Sensations and memories

Module 4 - The Physiology of the Olfactory Sense:

• Discover the impact of scents on your body
• Travel with a scent through your body
• Messages to hormones
• Messages to the nervous system
• Messages to DNA

Module 5 - The Olfactory Sense Training:

• Breathing and smelling, learning how to breathe correctly to benefit from odors 
• Methods to preserve and develop the olfactory sense
• Anosmia, hyposmia & dysosmia
• Methods to restore the olfactory sense

Module 6 - The Beneficial Power of Flower and Plants

• Introduction to aromatherapy 
• Example of several plants and their beneficial power.

Module 7 - Research on olfaction

• History of Research
• Importance of Olfaction in Perfumotherapy 
• Introduction to plant DNA to restore human DNA   

Module 8 – Becoming a Certified Olfaction Trainer

• Process & rules
• New Luxury Code

Each module is followed by a test (one module = one week).

COURSE 2
NATURAL AROMATHERAPY
The following is a Natural Aromatherapy course given by Hana Tisserand, Certified Aromatherapist, Teacher and Member of The Teacher's Academy.

Introduction and Over-view of Course:  Our goal is to introduce students of natural perfumery to the concepts and context of the practice of aromatherapy, giving them a deep understanding of essential oils as a raw material, and of the basic therapeutic applications of major essential oils.
The program is interactive, comprehensive and lively. Think of it as your expertly guided journey into the world of aromatherapy.

It is a 4 weeks course, with two modules each week delivered as online lecture with a Q&A afterwards​.

Weekly Modules:

Module 1 - History and cultural context of aromatherapy and aromatic medicine - historical and regional use of aromatic medicine through time

• - Overlap between fragrance and medicine through history
• - Aromatherapy in the 20th century: France and beyond
• - Different applications of aromatherapy nowadays (medicine, massage, beauty therapy, perfumery)

Module 2 - Essential oils: Production & Quality Control

• - Overview of aromatic plants, cultivation and harvesting, and distillation
• - Overview of resources needed with emphasis on sustainability
• - How to find good quality essential oil
• - Oxidation and proper storage of essential oils
• - Other extracts and materials used in aromatherapy (hydrolats, CO2 extracts)

Module 3 - Essential Oil Safety

• - Why safety matters even with natural ingredients - possible adverse reactions
• - The risk vs. benefit question
• - Safety guidelines and regulations

Module 4 - Effects of Essential Oils on our Body

• - Brief overview of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics - how essential oils interact with our cells
• - How essential oils interact with our brains
• - Most studied pharmacological effects of essential oils

Module 5 - Aromatherapy in Practice

• - Modes of application overview (inhalation, topical, ingestion) - inhalation and how it impacts our health
• - Dermal application and how it impacts our health

Module 6 - Essential Oil Profiles, part 1

• - Therapeutic benefit, fragrance benefit and therapeutic fragrance benefits overview
• - Benefits shared by most essential oils (antimicrobial, spasmolytic)
• - Highlights of 4 most researched essential oils (Lavender, Peppermint, Tea Tree, Eucalyptus)

Module 7 - Essential oil profiles, part 2

• - Highlights of other well-researched essential oils (including Patchouli, Rose, Jasmine, Bergamot, Orange, Citronella, Geranium, Turmeric, Clove, Copaiba, Myrrh, Immortelle, Ginger, Vetiver...)
• - Each profile will highlight the most important therapeutic property, fragrance note and other important facts for the oil

Module 8 - Using essential oils and creating a functional fragrance

• - Basic principles of formulating with essential oils
• - Working with different bases (oils, waxes and butters, alcohol-based perfumes)
• - Important considerations for formulation, including interactions and contraindications
•  - Making a safe and conscious aromatherapeutic blend

COURSE 3
NATURAL PERFUMERY
The following is a Natural Perfumery intensive course given by Andrej Babicky, Certified Natural Perfumer, Teacher and Member of The Teacher's Academy.

Introduction and Overview of the Course:
Delve into the art and science of creating unique, all-natural fragrances with this detailed certification program. Whether you're looking to enhance your hobby or steer your professional path in perfumery, this course offers a thorough exploration of natural perfumery techniques and the intricate processes of scent creation.

Module 1 - Introduction to Natural Perfumery

• Explore the historical evolution of perfumery
• Continue training your olfactory sense
• Learn about the New Luxury Code and the standards set by the International Perfume Foundation.

 
Module 2 - Olfactory Families

• Deep dive into the different olfactory families, understanding their facets, and mastering perfume terminology.
• Activities: Smelling exercises to identify family traits and on their role in perfume composition.

Module 3 - Natural Perfume Raw Materials and Extraction Techniques

• Introduction to natural perfume ingredients and the methods used for their extraction.
• Activities: creation of a simple natural extract and evaluation of their effects on scent profiles.

Module 4 - Essential Raw Materials

• Study the 50 most common natural raw materials used in perfumery, focusing on their main characteristics and olfactory profiles.
• Activities: evaluation and comparison of raw materials.

Module 5 - Perfume Structure and Creation

• Learn the structure of a perfume from conception to creation, including the significance of top, heart, and base notes.
• Activities: Accord exercises

Modules 6 to 8 - Creative Exploration

• Progressive development of creative skills in perfume creation, focusing on the formulation of simple and complex accords.
• Activities: Each module includes practical exercises to create distinctive accords and integrate them into unique perfumes.

Module 9 - From Idea to Perfume

• Techniques to translate creative ideas into actual perfumes, including the use of inspirations and mood boards.
• Activities: Develop a concept into a fragrance using provided themes and materials.

Module 10 - Certification and Future Prospects

• Overview of professional standards and expectations in natural perfumery as defined by the IPF Luxury Code. Preparation for the final examination.
• Activities: Mandatory one-on-one Zoom session to refine techniques and discuss the creation process.

Upon completion, participants will receive certification that not only enhances their credibility as a Natural Perfumer, Natural Aromatherapist and Olfaction Trainer but also a Perfumotherapist, empowering them to innovate within the field. Follow a 18 weeks intensive online course:
- 4 weeks intensive online course: Olfaction Training (2 modules / week)
- 4 weeks intensive online course: Natural Aromatherapy (2 modules / week)
- 10 weeks intensive online course: Natural Perfumery (1 module / week)

Olfaction Training and Aromatherapy can be taken simultaneously, reducing the length of the course to 14 weeks. 

Price of the Courses:
​3.795€ including IPF Certification for: 
Certified Natural Aromatherapist, Certified Natural Perfumer, Certified Olfaction Trainer and Certified Perfumotherapist. Possibility to pay by instalments.

After finishing all courses successfully, you can apply here to become a Certified Perfumotherapist, receive 4 Certificates with a QR Code from the International Perfume Foundation and, be Certified by the International Perfume Foundation as a Natural Perfumer, Olfaction Trainer, Natural Aromatherapist and Perfumotherapist.
​As a confirmation of your certifications,  you will be part of the first Perfumotherapists, have your name, contact details, and picture will listed in the IPF Directory.

  At first, I thought the Perfumotherapy course only focuses on blending skill. However, I am so surprised at what I have been trained, both useful theoric lessons and pracitical exercises base on each specific case.
